Established in 1966, ISER Books is a publishing division of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador. For more than 50 years our books have been investigating and chronicling the North Atlantic and beyond. We publish scholarly monographs and essay collections by authors from academic institutions across Canada and internationally, as well as non-academic experts and practitioners. With more than 100 books in print—in disciplines including Indigenous studies, archaeology, gender studies, anthropology, geography, history, and sociology—our books are read by scholars, students, and general readers the world over.
We welcome proposals of social and economic research within such disciplines and in such parts of the world as are deemed of relevance to Newfoundland and Labrador and the broader Atlantic world. Without limiting the generality of the above, research pertaining directly to social and economic development in Newfoundland and Labrador is of special importance. While academic excellence is the foundation of ISER Books, manuscripts are particularly welcome that combine academic excellence with subject matter and that have a writing style with wide public appeal.
